"I don't paint Venice exactly as I see it. I enhance the romantic side. If there are signs and graffiti on the walls that indicate contemporary life, I remove them. If there is a balcony, I make it overflow with flowers. I amplify the beauty. It's almost as though I travel into the psyche of people, asking them to describe the most romantic place they would want to be in Venice. Then I picture it and render it on canvas. And as I have discovered, people don't remember the graffiti. They remember the gondola."
